Keeping it Secret
A big obstacle during the creation of this game was keeping it secret. I was on vacation with my brother before his wedding so I had to make multiple excuses to be able to find time to work on it. Strategically planning who to tell and who could spill the beans.
Designing for a Wide Audience
Since there was going to be a wide range of people coming to the wedding, I had to design the game for a wide audience. I had to design something that would be fun for everyone regardless of people’s familiarity with playing games.
Balancing the difficulty was difficult because during playtests some people thought it was too hard and some people thought it was too easy. The player dies due to the death box coming from the left of the screen catching up to them. I slowed down the death box so it became easier. The user playing did not notice it was getting easier and still had the same feeling of accomplishment as people who beat it at a higher difficulty.
Outcome
People enjoyed it! The machine was busy all day!
Some areas of the game were too difficult for some and the game metrics needed to be tweaked as some jumps were too hard to get.
